14 DAY TRIAL // The second point release for the powerful darktable 2.0 open-source and cross-platform RAW image editor software has been released this past weekend with interesting new features and changes.
According to the changelog, which we've attached at the end of the article for reference, darktable 2.0.2 is an important update to the acclaimed RAW image editor, bringing initial support for DNG files, along with support for XMP files from Ramperpro timelapse controllers.
Additionally, the Fujifilm X-Pro2 camera is now officially supported, and noise profiles have been added for the Fujifilm X-T10 and Pentax K-S2 digital cameras, the latter also receiving white balance presets. Another interesting change is that darktable now requires Glib 2.40 or later.
"We're proud to announce the second bugfix release for the 2.0 series of darktable, 2.0.2. As always, please don't use the autogenerated tarball provided by GitHub, but only our tar.xz," explained the darktable maintainers in the GitHub announcement.
HiDPI and GCC 6 improvements, lots of bugfixes
If you take a look at the attached changelog, you'll notice that darktable 2.0.2 is also a bugfix release, patching various issues reported by users since the first maintenance build. Among the most important ones being the HiDPI, theming, GCC 6, and Markesteijn demosaicing fixes.
A lot of crashes, especially those reported with masks, malformed GPX files, and certain TIFF files have been fixed as well. Sluggish interface issues with Lua have also been addressed in darktable 2.0.2, along with build support for osmgpsmap 1.1.0 and higher.
Last but not least, the Hebrew translation has been implemented, and the German, Swedish, and Slovak ones updated. You can download the darktable 2.0.2 sources right now from our website, but it is recommended that you check for an update in the main software repositories of your GNU/Linux operating systems.
