Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition, the upcoming remastered version of the original action role-playing game, has just received a fresh set of comparison screenshots, this time showcasing the improved lighting as well as the added detail in the new title, when compared to the original release.

Darksiders 2 launched quite some time ago across PC, PS3, Xbox One, and even on the Wii U. Developer Vigil Games and publisher THQ weren't able to enjoy its success, however, as financial problems forced the latter to declare bankruptcy and to disband the promising studio.

The rights to the series were picked up by Nordic Games, while some Vigil veterans went on to form Gunfire Games. The two groups started collaborating on a new project, in the form of Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition, which is soon going to make its debut across PS4 and Xbox One consoles.

The Darksiders 2 remaster boasts improved lighting and more details

After having confirmed the project a short while ago, Nordic Games and Gunfire have just released a fresh set of comparison screenshots that showcase the revamped lighting system in the Deathinitive edition, as well as the added details, when put side by side with the original title.

According to Design Director John Pearl, besides obvious improvements like a 1080p native resolution or better textures, the studio also wanted to rewrite the engine to support better rendering of the whole world.

"We decided to rewrite the renderer to be physically based like a lot of other current generation game engines. What this means visually is metal, leather, stone and skin look and respond to light as you would expect them to in the real world. This new rendering method meant we revisited every texture and surface in the game, reworking and re-authoring them for the new renderer. To take full advantage of these texture changes, we’ve also gone back and relit the entire game," he explains.

As you can see in the comparison screenshots below, the Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition boasts a more realistic and slightly darker lighting, but also plenty of new items and details on enemies in particular.

The new game is going to debut on PS4 and Xbox One in the future.
