If you're a huge Dark Souls fan, you are absolutely right to be anxious to get the latest mobile game called Slashy Souls, which is probably meant to keep you busy until the third game in the franchise gets released in April.

Slashy Souls is an endless runner type of game that's been developed by Bandai Namco in partnership with major retailer GameStop.

Unfortunately, as the title says, Slashy Souls is a major failure not only in the sense that it will disappoint Souls fans, but every person that likes to play a good endless runner from time to time regardless of whether or not it's been inspired by a major PC franchise.

Naturally, we are not the ones to have judged the game that's been released on Google Play Store and App Store for less than a day.

Many of those who have heard about Slashy Souls a few days ahead of its release have been anxious to get their hands on it. Here is what one of those who played the game (a Souls fan) has to say about the game:

“Garbage. I am a huge fan of the Souls series but this game (if you even want to call it that) is a disgrace. This was just made to make you pre order dark souls 3 at GameStop. Controls are horrid. This 'game' doesn't deserve to share anything with dark souls. I wouldn't even bother downloading. I would give it zero stars if I could.”

Mostly negative reviews on Google Play store

At the time of the writing, the game has a 2.5 rating out of 5, but it's only been rated by 378 people, which means it's not probably available worldwide.

If you wonder what went wrong with Slashy Souls and why it got so bad ratings at launch, maybe the following review will enlighten you.

“This game made me go hollow. This tie-in is really sloppily done and amateur. It seems like they simply made the game with very little Q&A. 30 seconds of gameplay and I was quite shocked by how bad it was. The money spent on this could have been used for quality advertising.”

“You'll get over it in about five minutes. Cute graphics, really cool music, and a number of fun callbacks to the series, but it's not very fun, the 'combat' is mindless and boring, and it would have been a lot better as a side scrolling Metroidvania game than whatever this is. Cool for a few minutes if you're a Souls fan, but you're not missing anything if you don't play it.”

Not available in all countries; just in those where GameStop sells games?

If you want to try this for yourself, you can now download Slashy Souls for Android for free via Google Play Store. The game should be fully compatible with all devices running Android 2.2 and up.

For iOS users, the game can be downloaded for free via App Store. It should work smoothly on all devices running iOS 8.0 or later. But, as we've mentioned earlier, it might not be available in all countries.

We would like to end this with something that sounds more like a warning cry coming from an iOS user that seems like a big fan of the Dark Souls franchise:

“This is it... 'The One.' The... I mean... I just... I want... I TRULY DO NOT KNOW!! The controls are from another dimension. I mean honestly who thought it would be a great idea to make this? Was it GameStop? Did GameStop put you up to this? Did they have guns? Did they have guns to your head? Do we need to call the police? I would go as far as saying this is the WORST game on the AppStore right now and will continue to be... until the end of time itself.

“There could be a game about murdering babies, and it would be better than this. I could make a better game in a coma. Seriously, this game makes me want to commit an act of violence. You should be ashamed of yourselves GameStop! The responsibility falls on YOU for this digital cancer.”
