GNU/Linux developer Arne Exton informs Softpedia today about the immediate availability for download of a new build of his custom Android-x86 KitKat 4.4.4 computer operating system.

Based on the recently released Android-x86 4.4-r4 distribution, which is the last in the KitKat (Android 4.4) series, and powered by a custom 4.0.9-exton-android-x86 kernel, Android-x86 KitKat 4.4.4 Build 160125 Version 8 is here to bring some changes. Thus, it improves the overall graphic performance by adding the Mesa 3D Graphics Library 10.5.9 software, as well as makes the Bluetooth support work again thanks to the Bluetooth File Transfer app.

"I’ve added Mesa (3D Graphics Library) 10.5.9 for better Graphic performance. The system can run live (from CD or a USB stick) on almost all laptops (and some Desktop computers)," says Arne Exton. "What’s the point? Well, if you like your Android phone and all the apps you have installed on it I’m sure you will also like to run apps from your laptop."

It comes pre-installed with Google Play Store

Another great thing about Android-x86 KitKat 4.4.4 Build 8, which is a drop-in replacement for all the previous builds, is that it comes with the GAPPS (Google Apps) package. That means that it gives users access to all the important Google applications and services, including but not limited to Google Play store, Google Play Services, Google Maps, and YouTube.

Additionally, the developer has managed to include several other great applications, such as WPS Office and Spotify. Arne Exton assures users that everything works as expected and that the installation is easy as pie. After installation, you will be able to add even more Android apps via the Google Play Store. If you don't want to install it, you can run the system directly from the bootable medium.

Unfortunately, Android-x86 KitKat 4.4.4 Build 8 is not free and it costs $9 (€8).
