More than 50 percent of Windows 10 PCs running it

Microsoft started the gradual rollout of the Windows 10 Creators Update in April, with devices across the world receiving it in stages as more compatibility issues, either software or hardware, were fixed.

And now it looks like the Creators Update has reached an important milestone, as statistics provided by AdDuplex show that it’s running on more than 50 percent of the Windows 10 devices on the market.

More specifically, Windows 10 Creators Update (version 1703) is the top Windows 10 version with 50.1 percent of the PCs running it, while the Anniversary Update is second with 46 percent. Windows 10 version 1511 (November Update) is third with 2.6 percent, while the original version of Windows 10 rolled out in July 2015 is only powering 0.9 percent of the computers.

“Creators Update have crossed an important 50 percent install base threshold this month, but it seems to be lagging behind the pace of Anniversary Update. Even though AU was considered a slow rollut, after 3 months on the market 3/4 of all Windows 10 PCs were already running it,” AdDuplex says.

Not all Surface users running the Creators Update

MSI is the manufacturer whose nearly 65 percent of the devices are running the Creators Update, while Toshiba and Sony are far behind with just 40 percent, “presumably due to a higher percentage of older machines,” as the statistics suggest. Microsoft isn’t the leader you’d expect it to be, especially because not a lot of users rushed to install the Creators Update on their Surface models.

“Less than 18 percent of SP3 are on Creators Update, so there must be some important compatibility issue there that still remains a mystery,” AdDuplex explains.

The Surface Pro 4 is currently the top Surface model around with 40.8 percent of the users, while the Surface Pro 3 is the runner-up with 24 percent. The Surface 3 is next with 13.2 percent, followed by the original Surface Pro with 7.2 percent. The brand-new Surface Laptop is far behind with just 0.6 percent, but sales have only recently started, so figures are likely to improve in the coming months.
