The CoreOS development team has released a new stable build of their security-oriented Linux kernel-based operating system designed for creating and maintaining open source projects for Linux Containers (LXC).

CoreOS 1122.2.0 is now the latest stable and most advanced version of the GNU/Linux distribution, powered by Linux kernel 4.7, and shipping with systemd 229 init system, rkt 1.8.0 App Container runtime for Linux, Docker 1.10.3 application container engine, fleet 0.11.7 distributed init system, as well as etcd 0.4.9 and 2.3.2 service discovery tools.

Now, there are also a bunch of improvements in CoreOS Linux 1122.2.0. The sdnotify-proxy package has thus been re-implemented, journald has been made more flexible to ENOSPC errors, and systemd-networkd offers a better nameserver option parsing. Then, rkt is built without the TEXTREL section, and systemd has received timer execution calculation improvements.

rkt 1.8.0 is no longer supported on ARM64 hardware

Moreover, it appears that the etcd-wrapper package has been removed, the rkt 1.8.0 update is no longer supported on ARM64 (AArch64) hardware, which was never available on the stable channel in the first place, and various other minor issues reported by users since the CoreOS 1068.10.0 stable update have been resolved.

"The Stable channel has never contained a version which included this wrapper script and service. If an instance was booted from the Beta or Alpha channels and then moved to the Stable channel, it would lose the etcd-wrapper when it updates to this release," reads the announcement.

CoreOS 1122.2.0 is available for download right now via our website, or directly from the project's homepage, where you will also be able to get your hands on the latest Beta and Alpha development builds. If you're running a previous version of CoreOS Linux, we recommend updating as soon as possible to version 1122.2.0.
