The two devices are also joined in their doom by the Pixel C

Google has confirmed that Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X have reached the end of the road, and the devices are not going to get upgrades for Android P.

After the launch of the first preview version for Android P, users have noticed that Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X are not listed among the supported platforms. The obvious conclusion was that those devices are no longer supported, and it looks like they were right all along.

The guys from ArsTechnica noticed the same thing, and they talked with Google regarding this issue. It turns out that Google is simply done with those platforms, and the company has confirmed that Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X will remain with the current Android 8.1.

Pixels all the way

As it stands right now, only the Pixel line of devices are going to support new Android P, with one exception. There is also a tablet out there called Pixel C, and Google has terminated support for that devices as well.

To be fair, Google’s decision is not exactly a surprise, as the original support for those phones was two years, and we’re well past that. If anything Google has extended the support for both Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X to offer users the Android 8.1 updates.

What’s even more interesting is that with the death of the Pixel C, which no one will really miss, Google no longer has a supported tablet in its lineup, which hasn’t happened in a while. It follows the general trend of the market, which saw much lower demand for tablets.

The increase in size for phones made most tablets obsolete, and Google is ready to pull the plug on this particular file format. That’s not to say that the company can still surprise up, but for now, the tablet form factor doesn’t exist for Google.
