Company of Heroes 2, a real-time strategy developed by Relic Entertainment and ported for the Linux platforms by Feral Interaction, will land for Linux users on August 27.

It looks like Sega and Relic Entertainment have joined the companies that want to give Linux a helping hand. Company of Heroes 2 is definitely one of the best real-time strategies in the past few years, and the fact that it will be available for Linux users is a great step forward. We can only hope that other names in the Sega or Relic catalog will eventually get ported to Linux as well, especially since there are quite a few big names in there.

In fact, titles like Football Manager 2015, Total War: ATTILA, Total War: ROME II - Emperor Edition, Total War: SHOGUN 2, Empire: Total War, and The Cave, are all from the Sega catalog and have been released for Linux or are in the process of being ported. It used to feel like it's just a drop in an ocean, but almost one in four games on Steam now have Linux support, and that changes the perspective considerably.

Company of Heroes 2 for Linux has been in the works for a long time

Some changes were spotted in the Steam database a year ago, back in August 2014, and everyone was hoping to see the game back then, but it didn't happen. The good news is that the game now has a precise date.

"War is right around the corner, and on August 27 it will be waged by Mac and Linux. In real-time strategy game Company of Heroes 2, you will direct your troops through fast-paced battles in the brutal fight to turn the tide of World War II. From the desperate defence of Stalingrad to victory in Berlin, you must defeat both a tenacious enemy and the deadly cold of the Russian winter," reads the announcement from Feral's website.

The official launch date for Company of Heroes 2 is August 27, so expect to hear more about the game at the end of the month.
