We've been informed by one of our readers that Collabora Productivity announced on November 2, 2016, the release of the 2.0 milestone of its CODE (Collabora Online Development Edition) LibreOffice Online solution.

For those not in the know, CODE is a specially crafted edition of the upcoming LibreOffice Online HTML5/Cloud-based version of the popular office suite used by millions of computer users worldwide on GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows operating systems. LibreOffice Online is not yet ready for production, but Collabora managed to put together CODE as a development version of the cloud-based LibreOffice.

"We want to thank our outstanding partners for making LibreOffice Online available to their community and customers, and helping our goal of Collabora Online on every cloud, everywhere," said Michael Meeks, General Manager at Collabora Productivity. "This latest development release, with collaborative editing, is a huge step in this exciting journey and we are looking forward to growing this project even more."

Collaborative editing works with text, spreadsheets, and presentations

The biggest new feature of the CODE 2.0 release is also the most requested one, namely collaborative editing, allowing multiple users to work on the same text document, spreadsheet or presentation by adding comments and replies to comments, as well as selecting text and elements. We recommend that you check out the gallery below to see the new collaborative editing functionality in action.

Collabora Online 2.0 is now available for developers and home users alike, who can set up Collabora's cloud-based LibreOffice in their favorite file share and sync solution by reading the instructions provided at https://www.collaboraoffice.com/code/. On the other hand, enterprise production users need to wait a lot longer for CODE 2.0 to arrive, but they can check ownCloud, Nextcloud, Pydio, and Seafile's online demos.
