Collabora Productivity team, the driving force behind putting LibreOffice in the Cloud, proudly announced today the release and general availability of Collabora Online 2.1 and Collabora Online Development Edition (CODE) 2.1.

In an effort to make the collaborative editing experience even better, Collabora Online 2.1 is here to improve both the interoperability and scalability by rebasing the code on the recently released Collabora Office 5.3 office suite designed for enterprises and based on the LibreOffice 5.3 open-source office suite.

"Months of hard work from the Collabora team has made this release really impressive," said Michael Meeks, General Manager of Collabora Productivity. "The list of improvements and new features show that Collabora Online is going to be the best online office suite out there."

Here's what's new in Collabora Online 2.1

Prominent new features of Collabora Online 2.1 include better anti-aliased rendering and performance, better ifile-filters and feature-set, reduced memory consumption and CPU usage to increase responsiveness, better queueing, buffering, and traffic management, as well as bandwidth reduction and updated localizations.

The comment rendering has been improved as well in this major release of Collabora Online, as a native overlay, the pivot table was refreshed, there's now a non-printing character rendering option, a new "Insert Special Characters" dialog, and the initial implementation of Input Method support for Asian languages.

The design appears to be more responsive now, and a minimized UI is now available when in read-only mode. Collabora Online 2.1 is also capable of rendering huge spreadsheets of up to half a million rows, and it now lets users enable or disable change tracking, as well as add, accept or reject comments for red-line document changes.

Other noteworthy features implemented in Collabora Online 2.1 are decimal separator support by locale and formatting in spreadsheets. Collabora Online 2.1 is the next-generation, powerful LibreOffice-based online office suite designed for small and medium-sized businesses and enterprises.

It allows users to edit some of the most popular word, spreadsheet, and presentation file formats through their web browser. Its selling point is that it can be easily integrated into your infrastructure, while having full control of the data, and it can handle large scale deployments.

A Collabora Online 2.1 demo is available here, and Collabora Productivity is also pleased to announce today the immediate availability of Collabora Online Development Edition (CODE) 2.1, a development branch of Collabora Online targeted towards home users, which is available for download right now from the official website.
