14 DAY TRIAL // Steven Shiau, the developer behind the Clonezilla Live and GParted Live projects, has proudly announced the availability for download of the Clonezilla Live 2.4.7-8 stable ISO respins.
Clonezilla Live 2.4.7-8 is now the latest stable and most advanced build of the Live ISO/USB system that system administrators can use to clone disk drives for backup purposes. The new release has been synchronized with the upstream Debian Sid software repositories as of June 27, 2016, and is now using Linux kernel 4.6.2.
Many of the core components have received new versions that patch issues reported by users since the previous releases of the project. For example, Partclone 0.2.89 fixes a bug with the Btrfs file system, Cloudfuse 0.9+redbogit871a98f-drbl2 includes many useful patches, and Partclone-utils 0.4.1 brings lots of improvements.
Expert saving mode TUI gets new batch support
Among other new features, we can mention batch support in the expert saving mode text user interface (TUI), the "-icds" option is now enabled automatically when either "-k1" or "-k2" option is selected in the TUI, and there's now a new option that lets users re-mount an image repo when ocs-live-repository fails.
"Provide an option to mount image repository again when failing in ocs-live-repository. 'ask_user' is a reserved name to be used as the Samba domain and account and SSHFS account in the URI so that user can input their own names," said Steven Shiau in the release announcement.
A retry functionality has been implemented in Clonezilla 2.4.7-8 for those awkward moments when the mounting of SSH file systems and Samba servers as image repositories fails. Then, support for /dev/nbd device has been added as well, and it looks like the "ocs_preload" boot parameter now supports a mount command for CIFS and NFS filesystems.
Last but not least, a new mechanism will ensure automatic mount of an image repository using the "ocs_repository" boot parameter in URI format, the live-boot component now supports assigning of the "toram" parameter as multiple modules, and GRUB support is now available on EBR (Extended Boot Record) cloning and imaging.
