A new maintenance update of the Cinnamon 3.2 desktop environment has arrived this weekend, versioned 3.2.4, for the upcoming Linux Mint 18.1 "Serena" operating system, but also for users of Linux Mint 18 "Sarah."

Cinnamon 3.2.4 is now the latest stable release of the acclaimed desktop environment for GNU/Linux distributions, and lands approximately three weeks after the Cinnamon 3.2.2 update, and one day after the announcement of Cinnamon 3.2.3, which was a major version adding numerous improvements, new features, and bug fixes.

Among the new features implemented in Cinnamon 3.2.3, we can mention the addition of the open-source Rhythmbox music player to the list of known players in the Sound Applet, an icon to the "Run with Nvidia" option in the Applications Menu, as well as support for applets with :checked pseudo class to the default theme.

Moreover, support for the MATE Panel was added to the Cinnamon Launcher, custom date formats are now allowed in vertical panels, there's a new setting that lets users disable automatic screen rotation on tablets, an orientation lock keybinding is now available, along with a button with info on custom format in Screensaver settings.

Cinnamon 3.2.4 fixes ugly buttons in Cinnamon Settings

While Cinnamon 3.2.3 improved the reliability of the previews of screensaver plugins and addressed various issues reported by users since the release of Cinnamon 3.2.2 or a previous update, Cinnamon 3.2.4 is a small patch that fixes ugly buttons in Cinnamon Settings and clears the preview container when selecting the default screensaver.

For more details, we recommend checking out the full release notes for Cinnamon 3.2.3 and 3.2.4 below. In the meantime, keep an eye on the stable repositories of your favorite GNU/Linux distribution for the new Cinnamon updates, and install them as soon as they arrive. Linux Mint 18.1 "Serena" is launching in the next couple of weeks with Cinnamon 3.2 by default.
