While the Linux Mint 18 operating system is still in heavy development, Clement Lefebvre and his team of developers have announced a new update for the Cinnamon 3.0 desktop environment.

Cinnamon 3.0.4 is now the latest version of the acclaimed GNOME 3-based open-source graphical desktop interface, which will be used by default for the upcoming Linux Mint 18 "Sarah" OS, on the Cinnamon Edition, of course. It comes a few days after the release of Cinnamon 3.0.3.

Truth be told, the entire month of May has been about the development of the Cinnamon 3.0 desktop, as it has received a total of three maintenance releases, which have fixed many annoyances and bugs reported by users since last month's release of Cinnamon 3.0, thus improving the overall desktop experience for users.

Cinnamon 3.0.4 continues with fixing the issues that are still being reported by those who are using the desktop environment on their GNU/Linux operating system, and it looks like the overlay scrollbar toggle has been updated only to be displayed for the GTK+ 3.16 or later GUI toolkit, and adds improvements to translations.

The Menu and Sound applets have received fixes too

Cinnamon 3.0.4 also updates the Sound and Menu applets, bringing improvements to the default icon that's being displayed for blank cover art on the Sound applet, and removes trailing spaces and no longer refreshes the Menu applet twice at the same time.

Furthermore, the Menu applet has received an important fix for the issue where the drag placeholder in the favorite box was not cleared correctly each time an application was being dragged by the user over it, without dropping it on the favorite box, of course.

Last but not least, the fourth maintenance release of the Cinnamon 3.0 desktop environment implements a new function that makes stokes and accents be ignored when the user searches the Cinnamon Settings or the Applications Menu. All users are urged to update as soon as possible.

You can download the Cinnamon 3.0.4 sources right now via our website, but it looks like it's already available on the unofficial PPA for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus), the Arch Linux repositories, and, of course, in Linux Mint. More details about the changes implemented in Cinnamon 3.0.4 can be found in the changelog below.
