Cinnamon 3.0.3 is the third stable update in the series

A few hours ago, Clement Lefebvre, leader of the Linux Mint project, pushed a new version of the Cinnamon 3.0 desktop environment to Linux Mint users.

Tagged as build 3.0.3 for the upcoming Linux Mint 18 "Sarah," the new Cinnamon update is now available for stable users, those who have the Cinnamon 3.0 desktop installed on their GNU/Linux operating systems, such as Cinnamon 3.0.1 or Cinnamon 3.0.2.

Cinnamon 3.0.3 comes approximately two weeks after the release of Cinnamon 3.0.2 and introduces a total of 19 changes to most of the core components of the open-source desktop environment, including, but not limited to, Cinnamon Settings, as well as Menu and Sound applets.

The importance of the Cinnamon 3.0.3 update was set to medium, and by looking at the changelog, which we've attached below for reference, there are many significant implemented changes. But we still recommend you to update as soon as possible.

A few things caught our eye in Cinnamon 3.0.3, such as support for setting the dark flavor of the new Mint-Y theme, the implementation of desktop file keywords in the Menu applet search, and it looks like the notifications that include button will no longer fade.

Cinnamon 3.0 will be the default desktop environment of Linux Mint 18

As we reported a few weeks ago, the upcoming Linux Mint 18 "Sarah" operating system is in the works, and a Beta release should be seeded to public beta testers in the next few weeks, sometime in the first days of June. Linux Mint 18 Beta will come with Cinnamon 3.0 as default desktop environment, along the MATE edition, of course.

At the moment, we have no inside information about the release date of Linux Mint 18 "Sarah," but it should happen this summer, most probably in August if things go well with the development cycle and no major blockers occur. You can download the Cinnamon 3.0.3 sources via our website. However, we recommend that you wait until it is available in the main software repositories of your distro.
