14 DAY TRIAL // Today, May 10, 2016, Clement Lefebvre and his team of developers have released the second maintenance build for the Cinnamon 3.0 desktop environment, further polishing several of its components.
Cinnamon 3.0.2 comes two weeks after the release of Cinnamon 3.0.1, which only fixed the alignment of the rating number in the "Get more" pages for extensions, to no longer be covered by the overlay scrollbars, and according to the internal changelog attached at the end of the article it brings multiple bug fixes.
Among the changes, we can mention that Cinnamon 3.0.2 prevents desktop effects from being used on menus and dialogs if the "desktop-effects" setting is disabled, introduces cache generated thumbnails, fixes a declaration of alias variable in the Power applet, as well as a call on null object for the Window list.
A close button has been added to the Speaker Test dialog
Also new in Cinnamon 3.0.2 is better handling of device icons, the addition of a close button to the Speaker Test dialog, and a workaround for the visual glitches users reported with many GTK themes when attempting to change from the main icon view to a page that shows the stack swither.
Highlighting should work correctly for multiple instances of a Cinnamon applet, a crash that occurred when attempting to close an image was fixed, and PackageKit is no longer used during lookup of installed assistance programs. Instead, Cinnamon now searches for their binaries and notifies the user if the app is installed or not.
As expected, the Cinnamon 3.0.2 update has been tagged for the upcoming Linux Mint 18 "Sarah" operating system, which will be based on the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) distribution and will see a Beta release sometimes next month. The final Linux Mint 18 release will ship with the latest Cinnamon 3.0 desktop by default.
