14 DAY TRIAL // Chuwi is one of the companies trying to build affordable alternatives to Microsoft’s Surface lineup without giving up on too many features, and today the firm has announced that it’s working on another laptop called… SurfBook.
As Microsoft watchers could easily guess, the SurfBook is supposed to be a rival to the Surface Book, though it looks more like a Surface Pro 4 alternative given that it features a built-in kickstand.
The SurfBook is developed with a 12.3-inch display with a resolution of 2736x1824 pixels, but there are reports that a 10.5-inch version is also in the works.
Technical specs
In terms of hardware, the Chuwi SurfBook is no monster, as it’s powered by the pretty slow Intel Apollo Lake N3450 processor. This clearly isn’t the best option for a Windows 10 laptop, and it doesn’t even compare to the Intel Core i5 or i7 chips being used on Microsoft’s Surface Book, but it should be powerful enough to deal with typical everyday tasks like browsing the web or watching movies.
The processor is paired with 6GB RAM, and the device also comes with 128GB of built-in storage. Stylus support brings it closer to the idea behind the Surface lineup, while the 10,000 mAh battery should provide around 6 hours of battery life. Of course, the device runs the full version of Windows 10.
The SurfBook comes with a detachable keyboard in typical Surface style, and thanks to the built-in kickstand, it can easily convert from tablet into laptop. The stylus supports 1,024 levels of pressure and features palm blocking technology, according to the company.
There’s no word as to when the SurfBook is projected to hit the market, but it shouldn’t take too long before this happens, so expect more information in this regard this summer.
Without a doubt, the SurfBook won’t be expensive and it’s probably safe to say that a $250 to $300 price tag is very likely.
