The Chrome 71 version will prevent harmful ad experiences

Google announced that starting with December 2018 the Chrome 71 web browser will remove all ads on websites with persistent abusive experiences.

As detailed by Vivek Sekhar, Google Product Manager, "Site owners will have a 30 day window to fix experiences flagged by the Report before Chrome removes ads."

The abusive ad experiences Google Chrome will take into consideration when deciding if all ads will be blocked for a given website include ads which mislead users to click buttons pretending to be "close" or system buttons.

A large portion of these misleading ads is used by crooks in scam and phishing campaigns to steal personal information from users who click on these types of ads.

Moreover, according to Sekhar, "Site owners can use the Abusive Experiences Report in their Google Search Console to see if their site contains any of these abusive experiences that need to be corrected or removed."

Chrome 71 will allow users to disable the abusive experience protection feature

Google previously added extra protection in Chrome 68 to block abusive experiences such as unwanted redirects and unwanted tabs/windows to improve the users' experience while browsing using Google Chrome.

Among other abusive experiences designed to mislead users blocked by the Chrome web browser, Google also lists fake messages, unexpected click areas, phishing pages, auto-redirect, false mouse pointers, page elements that lead to ads or landing pages when clicked, and ads or page elements that link to unwanted software.

The users who will not want to take advantage of the newly implemented abusive ad experience protection measures can easily disable the abusive sites filtering feature from Google Chrome's settings.

This means that users who don't want to take the time to customize these settings or like browsing cleaner websites which do not try and mislead them at every step will in effect punish sites that take advantage of abusive experiences to boost their earnings.
