Intel makes jaws drop to the floor with a 4K, sub-1cm PC

At the recent IFA tradeshow in Berlin, Intel showed an ultra-thin all-in-one PC with a profile of around 1 centimeter, sporting a screen that can render all resolutions, including 4K.

The guys at Nordichardware were the ones who spotted this mysterious all-in-one from Intel at IFA 2015. As they put it, the device showcases the capabilities of today’s computing circuits and components in an ultra-thin form factor that crams everything in a panel-shaped computer that’s only 1-cm thick.

It seems that the system is passively cooled and can hold a large full HD to 4K screen. Connectivity-wise, it seems that it is equipped with one USB Type-C port and a mini-HDMI connector.

Not much is known about the specs of the machine, and while Intel keeps everything under wraps, it is hard to pinpoint the exact performance of the new computer. However, what impresses us the most is that Intel managed to place an entire system in a form factor that is slimmer than a painting panel board, while also holding a 4K screen.

Although it is just an exhibit, Windows 10 runs inside that PC

There’s probably nothing much to expect from this machine, except for what probably is an OLED screen, since LG managed to bring a screen that is a couple of millimeters thick at IFA this year, also based on OLED technology.

When it comes to the CPU powering it, it is very hard to speculate what sort of silicon die will be used, but we suspect it might be one of the latest Core Ms, since they are the only small CPUs from Intel that can run 4K videos.

Anyway, this is a pretty amazing PC regardless of the processing power, but it might even become a decent option for a home PC, especially if 4K panel prices continue to go down. Moreover, it's an incredible proof of concept that really shows how slim computers could be in the future, once Moore’s Law has something to say about semiconductor size shrinking.
