It starts small and then it gets bigger and more powerful

Acer's line of Revo tiny desktops expands with a new modular PC that starts small and can get bigger and bigger as more modules with components get added on top.

The Acer Revo Build is basically a blocky upgradable, modular mini-desktop, about the size of an Intel NUC and measures 4.9″ x 4.9″ x 2.2.”. In case you might think where it will grow, it will be on height, as you can build up stacking "Blocks" on top of the base.

Interestingly enough, the blocks will connect to another through pgp pins with magnetic alignment, so don't worry about cables and module-to-module connectivity. Acer hopes that, at launch, the new Blocks will have 500GB and 1TB portable HDDs, completely interchangeable. As was to be expected, the base of the mini-tower PC holds the guts of the machine. It features 32GB or eMMC storage, up to 8GB of RAM, and an Intel Celeron N3050, Celeron N3150, or Pentium N3700 Braswell processor.

It starts weak and then it gets pretty powerful

The system will run, obviously, on Windows 10 and will feature three USB 3.0 ports, HDMI and DisplayPort, a headset jack, and an SD card reader. In case users would want to upgrade the Revo Build's internal memory, they can loosen on a single screw to open up the case.

Apparently, Acer doesn't plan this mini-PC to have any special performance values, probably because it wants to test the new modular design which could be in the consumer's benefit after all.

Thus potential clients could start with a base model for their immediate needs and then upgrade to the rest of the modules like an Audio Block with built-in speakers and a microphone, a wireless power bank, an external graphics BLock with an AMD graphics cards and even a projector Block.

The new Revo Build will be available from Acer in Europe, the Middle East and Asia starting October with a price beginning at €199 ($224) in Europe while the U.S. version will probably follow soon.
