Apple just took the wraps off the iPhone XR, its more affordable iPhone X successor during the September 12 event taking place at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino.

After the unveiling of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max which come with 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch OLED displays, Apple released iPhone XR, the third iPhone X heir.

iPhone XR is a slightly more affordable unit when compared two the current top models, and it features a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina 326 ppi LCD screen with 1.4 million pixels, with support for tap-to-wake and True Tone.

iPhone XR comes with single cameras on both the back and the face of the device, a 12 MP camera with OIS on the back, with support for Smart JDR, Portrait Mode Depth Control, and advanced bokeh.

On the front face, the iPhone XR has a TrueDepth camera with improved and advanced Face ID, that can record gorgeous looking stabilized 1080p 60 FPS videos.

The same 64-bit Apple A12 Bionic 7 nanometer SoC with a 6-Core CPU and a 4-Core GPU processor available in the new iPhones launched during the September 12 event also powers the iPhone XR.

The A12 also features and an 8-Core Neural Engine processor and a fast storage controller with support for up to 512 GB of internal storage.

Also, just like in the case of the iPhone Xs models, in combination with Apple's iOS 12, the A12 Bionic helps apps launch 30% faster than the previous iPhone X smartphone model or the previous iPhone 8 device lineup.

Storage-wise, iPhone XR's most basic configurations start at 64 GB, with the more pricey builds going all the way up to 256 GB, but not reaching the 512 GB target hit by the other two iPhone X descendants.

The iPhone XR comes in more colors than its more pricey brothers, with the device being available in a Black, White, Red, Yellow, Blue, or Coral coat.

Apple's iPhone XR also comes with the Face ID secure screen unlock feature which made it simpler for the Cupertino giant to use the same new edge-to-edge design available on the iPhone X.

Pricing of the iPhone XR unit starts at $749 for the base model with 64 GB of storage.

The iPhone XR will be held back for approximately one more month after pre-orders for the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max models start, to give Apple's premium models enough time to build a proper market share.

Apple will use the iPhone X release schedule, with pre-orders for the iPhone XR starting on 19 October, while shipments to customers will begin on October 26 November.

Given its pricing model and its decent hardware configuration, the iPhone XR might be Cupertino's cheaper iPhone X successor might become the best-selling iPhone model of the year.
