Apple is gearing up for this year’s iPhone launch, and one question that is yet to be answered concerns the name of the more affordable version.

While the two other models could be called iPhone XS and iPhone XS Plus or Max, recent reports have indicated that the 6.1-inch LCD sibling may hit the shelves as iPhone XC.

Without a doubt, this is a name that makes sense, especially after the iPhone 5C that used a similar naming scheme.

But according to reputable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, this particular iPhone versions may end up being called iPhone XR. In a note released today, Kuo says there’s a chance that this model would be hit by a small delay caused by quality issues of assembly and display.

Earlier this year, it was speculated that this iPhone would launch later than the other two versions due to Apple planning to give exclusive time on the market to premium configurations.

Two-week delay

However, Kuo says the device could land in late September or early October, which is still sooner than anticipated. Previously, this iPhone was said to follow a release schedule similar to the one of the original iPhone X, which debuted in early November.

Interestingly, if display manufacturing struggles are at fault for the delay experienced by this iPhone, this would be the second time when Apple has a hard time getting the screen of new models right.

The original iPhone X was also pushed back for nearly a month due to challenges experienced during the production process, particularly with the edge-to-edge screen and the integration of Face ID modules.

The 6.1-inch iPhone will use an LCD screen with a similar design and a notch at the top. No Touch ID will be offered, as Apple expands Face ID to all models. The device will stick with a single-lens camera as a cost-saving measure, with pricing rumored to start at $699.
