Today, September 28, 2016, Vince Pooley has had the great pleasure of announcing the general availability of the final release of the Fedora-based Chapeau 24 "Cancellara" GNU/Linux operating system.

First off, we would like to congratulate Mr. Pooley for releasing the final Chapeau 24 release so soon after announcing the Beta only two weeks ago. Based on the Fedora 24 Linux distribution, Chapeau 24 is here to offer you a more user-friendly and highly customized Fedora experience, but with all the upstream goodies.

Secondly, if you're wondering what the main changes between Chapeau 23 and Chapeau 24 are, we would like to tell you that Transmission is now the default BitTorrent client, Wayland has been whitelisted in the login manager, the Nmap security scanner is included by default, and there are five new games, as well as some extra wallpapers.

"I am very pleased to announce the general availability of Chapeau 24, you can download the iso file or update your Chapeau system to this latest release right now," says Vince Pooley, creator and maintainer of Chapeau. "For the upstream changeset documentation for Fedora 24 see the Fedora 24 Changeset."

Looking under the hood of Chapeau 24

Taking a look under the hood of Chapeau 24, we can notice that it is derived from the Fedora 24 Workstation edition, which means that it uses the GNOME 3.20 desktop environment and Linux 4.7 kernel. Besides that, there are numerous up-to-date components and open source applications.

Among these, we can mention the LibreOffice 5 office suite, PlayOnLinux and Wine for running Windows apps and games, Steam for Linux, VLC Media Player, the Mozilla Firefox web browser with Adobe Flash Player, GNOME Boxes virtualization software, Dropbox integration, as well as out-of-the-box KVM virtualization.

Other than that, the distro ships with out-of-the-box multimedia support, as it offers DVD playback and support for almost all audio and video codecs, comes pre-configured with the RPMFusion software sources in case you want to install additional packages, and Hardware Helper Tool (HHT) to inspect your system's hardware information.

Chapeau 24 Linux is available for download right now via our website. Please note that it's only compatible with 64-bit (x86_64) computers. If you're running Chapeau 23, you can upgrade right now to Chapeau 24 by following the instructions provided by the developer. Please also consult the known issues before installing or upgrading to Chapeau 24.
