Chapeau Linux developer Vince Pooley is back in action after being away the entire year, and it looks like he's preparing to launch a new version of the Fedora-based GNU/Linux distribution.

Chapeau 23 "Armstrong" was announced back in December 2015, and we haven't heard a word from the developer since then, and now he wrote an informative blog post to let us know that Chapeau 24 is coming along nicely and, as expected, will be based on the Fedora 24 operating system. And it even has a codename: Cancellara!

"Chapeau 24 is on its way and unlike previous releases of Chapeau, this release has taken a long time after the latest release of Fedora 24 to surface, and I’m guessing some users may be curious as to why," says Vince Pooley. "Chapeau releases are codenamed after legendary cyclists and Chapeau 24 is named in honor of Fabian Cancellara."

The many features of Chapeau 24

Even if the developer says that not much has changed since Chapeau 23, we can't help but notice that Chapeau 24 will be powered by Fedora 24's Linux 4.7 kernel, Transmission has been added as the default BitTorrent client, Wayland support is now integrated into the GDM login manager, and the distro is shipping with the GNOME 3.20 desktop environment.

In Chapeau 24, you'll find all the open source applications you love and use every single day, including LibreOffice 5, VLC Media Player, PlayOnLinux, Steam for Linux, Mozilla Firefox, GNOME Boxes, Rhythmbox, Openshot, Shotwell, darktable, GIMP, Clam AntiVirus (ClamAV), Yumex-DNF, GNOME Software, and much more. The interface has been updated as well and it features the Moka and Faba icons.

We recommend reading the official release notes to see what happened to the Chapeau developer while he was away, as well as visiting the Chapeau 24 Features page if you're curious to know what exactly was changed and what new functionality has been implemented. And if you want to become an early adopter, the Chapeau 24 repos are now live!
