Chakra GNU/Linux developer Neofytos Kolokotronis informs the community of the rolling release operating system about the availability of numerous up-to-date GNU/Linux technologies in the main software repositories.

Chakra GNU/Linux is a distro built around the latest KDE software, so users have received today the recently released KDE Plasma 5.6.5 desktop environment. It is the last one in the Plasma 5.6 series, as KDE Plasma 5.7 is coming in the first week of July, which we hope will be included in Chakra GNU/Linux as soon as possible.

Moreover, Chakra GNU/Linux users will be able to update to the newly announcement KDE Applications 16.04.2 software suite and KDE Framework 5.23.0 collection of add-ons for Qt5, which you need to install if you want to enjoy a flawless KDE Plasma desktop experience.

"The latest updates for KDE's Plasma, Applications and Frameworks series are now available to all Chakra users, together with other package updates," said Neofytos Kolokotronis in the announcement. "It should be safe to answer yes to any replacement question by Pacman. Most of our mirrors take 12-24h to synchronize."

Now powered by Linux kernel 4.5.7

As part of today's update, Chakra GNU/Linux users are also getting a new kernel, Linux 4.5.7, which, unfortunately, is the also the last in the series. The kernel developers are currently urging OS vendors to move to Linux kernel 4.6 as soon as possible, so let's hope that Chakra GNU/Linux devs will also adopt the Linux 4.6 kernel soon.

But wait, that's not all, as the new update, which should now be live for all Chakra GNU/Linux users, brings Qt 5.6.1, VLC Media Player 2.2.4, Cantata 2.0.1, Calibre 2.59.0, Wine 1.9.12, Trojita 0.7, MariaDB 10.1.13, PHP 5.6.22, GHC 7.10.3, as well as the latest security fixes for many core components, including ImageMagick, wget, tar, and p7zip.

To receive all the goodies mentioned above, Chakra GNU/Linux users are urged to update their installations as soon as possible. As noted by the Chakra GNU/Linux developer above, most mirrors should get the new package versions in the next 12-24 hours, so if you don't see them, try again in a few hours. Have fun using Chakra GNU/Linux!
