Neofytos Kolokotronis from the Chakra GNU/Linux project, an open-source operating system originally based on Arch Linux and the KDE Plasma desktop environment, announced the availability of the latest KDE updates in the distro's repositories.

Those of you using Chakra GNU/Linux as your daily drive will be happy to learn that the stable repos were filled with numerous up-to-date packages from the recently released KDE Plasma 5.9.3 desktop environment, KDE Applications 16.12.3 software suite, and KDE Frameworks 5.32.0 collection of over 70 add-on libraries for Qt 5.

As of today, the latest version of the KDE Plasma 5.9 desktop environment is 5.9.4, but it looks like Chakra GNU/Linux users will have to wait a few weeks until they'll be able to update their installations to this release, which brings 35 improvements across various core components and applications.

"It's only been days since our latest release Goedel 2017.03 was announced, but KDE software updates fully roll in Chakra and we could not delay this any further. As always, simply upgrading your system after installation will provide you with the latest available software in our repositories," reads today's announcement.

Calligra 3.0.0.1, Wine 2.4, and Pidgin 2.12.0 also landed

If you're using the KDE-oriented Calligra office suite on your Chakra GNU/Linux operating system, you'll be happy to learn that the latest Calligra 3.0.0.1 release has landed in the stable repositories and it's fully ported to the KDE Frameworks 5 technologies, though it doesn't ship with Author, Stage, Flow, and Braindump components.

Among other popular applications that landed in the Chakra GNU/Linux repos with today's sync, we can mention the Pidgin 2.12.0 instant messenger, HPLIP 3.16.11 HP printer drivers stack, MariaDB 10.1.22 database engine, Vala 0.34.6 programming language, QupZilla 2.1.2 web browser, Skype 5.0.0.5 VoIP client, as well as Bash 4.4.012, btrfs-progs 4.8.5, and Wine 2.4.

The Chakra GNU/Linux devs inform users that they are offering the bundled web application of Skype for Linux, which, unfortunately, lacks some of the important features, as well as system integration. If you want to receive all these goodies, make sure that you update your Chakra GNU/Linux installation by running the "sudo pacman -Syu" command in a terminal emulator.
