Today, September 22, 2016, Chakra GNU/Linux maintainer Neofytos Kolokotronis announced that the rolling operating system is now getting the latest software updates and technologies.

Yes, you're reading it right, your Chakra GNU/Linux installation has just been updated, and you'll now get the recently released KDE Plasma 5.7.5 desktop environment, which is the last maintenance version in the Plasma 5.7 series before KDE Plasma 5.8 LTS hits the streets, as well as KDE Applications 16.08.1 software suite and KDE Frameworks 5.26.0.

"The latest updates for KDE's Plasma, Applications and Frameworks series are now available to all Chakra users," says Neofytos Kolokotronis. "The Plasma 5.7.5 release is the final bugfix update for the 5.7.x series, as 5.8.0 will be released soon. It includes a month's worth of bugfixes and new translations, with notable changes found in the plasma workspace, sddm-kcm and NetworkManager packages."

Git 2.10 and Wine 1.9.19 landed as well

But wait, that's not all that landed in your Chakra GNU/Linux operating system if you update it today, as you'll also get some of the recent open source software releases, including Git 2.10.0, MariaDB 10.1.17 (includes a patch for the 0-day "CVE-2016-6662" MySQL vulnerability), CUPS 2.1.4, PHP 5.6.25, Poppler 0.47.0, pdf2svg 0.2.3, and aMule 10958.

Users are being informed that if they upgrade to Poppler 0.47.0, it will break backward compatibility with previous versions, so if you have any local/CCR packages that depend on another Poppler version, you'll have to recompile it. That being said, all the goodies mentioned above should be ready for installation via the official software repositories.

To update, simply open the terminal emulator and execute the "pacman -Syu" command, just like on the Arch Linux operating system. Please keep in mind that if it happens to not see these updates right now on your selected mirror, it means that it hasn't been syncronized with the main server yet, so you'll have to try again in a couple of hours or switch to another mirror that close to you.
