Earlier today, April 3, 2016, Chakra GNU/Linux maintainer Neofytos Kolokotronis proudly announced the availability of some major updates in the main software repositories of the Arch Linux inspired operating system.

As some of you might be aware, Chakra GNU/Linux is a Linux kernel-based operating system built around the latest KDE Plasma desktop environment, so it is essential for it to always receive new maintenance releases from upstream. Therefore, today you can update your Chakra GNU/Linux installation to the recently released KDE Plasma 5.6.1 and KDE Frameworks 5.20.0 packages.

These updates bring lots of improvements and bug fixes, so feel free to click on the links above to learn everything there is to know about the changes implemented in that software. Unfortunately, there's no word on the upcoming KDE Applications 16.04 software suite, but we're most certain that it will land in the Chakra GNU/Linux repos later this month after the official release on April 20, 2016.

"We are happy to announce that the brand new 5.6 series of Plasma releases, more specifically Plasma 5.6.1, is now available in our stable repositories," said Neofytos Kolokotronis. "This quick update that followed the first 5.6 release provides several bug fixes to Plasma users, in addition to the many changes that were introduced in 5.6.0 which aimed at enhancing users' experience."

Most of the Qt packages were rebased on Qt 5.6

Another important change that happened today for Chakra GNU/Linux users is the rebuilt and update of over 900 packages that depend on the Qt GUI toolkit. As you might know or not, the major Qt 5.6 released was announced a few weeks ago, so it was extremely important for the Chakra OS to receive the new Qt technologies as soon as possible.

Among other noteworthy updated packages, we can mention HP Linux Imaging and Printing (HPLIP) 3.16.3, OpenJDK 8 Update 77, Python 3.5.1 and 2.7.11, Octopi 0.8.1, NTFS-3G 2016.2.22, Boost 1.60.0, Icu 56.1, KRB5 1.14.1, libsasl 2.1.26, Qupzilla 2.0.0, and the latest Otter web browser. Please update your Chakra GNU/Linux operating system as soon as possible.
