14 DAY TRIAL // The Chakra GNU/Linux distro, a rolling operating system inspired by Arch Linux, has received a major update for the graphics stack, Linux kernel, and other essential core packages.
Therefore, we would like to take this opportunity to inform our Chakra GNU/Linux users that they have received Linux kernel 4.5.1, the first point release of the latest and most advanced kernel branch, which introduces numerous improvements and better hardware support, as well as Linux kernel 3.14.66, for LTS users.
Moreover, the graphics stack has been updated with the Mesa 11.2.1 3D Graphics Library, xf86-video-amdgpu (the open-source AMDGPU graphics driver) 1.1.0 and xf86-video-ati 7.7.0 for Radeon GPUs, xf86-video-intel 2.99.917+544+g8b8c9a3 video driver for integrated Intel graphics cards, and Nvidia 364.16, 340.96, and 304.131 for Nvidia users.
"This update mainly consists of updates in our core repository, including the linux kernels and the graphics drivers, as well as other packages," said Neofytos Kolokotronis, maintainer of Chakra GNU/Linux in the announcement.
KDE Plasma 5.6.3 and KDE Applications 16.04 to arrive soon
Among other packages that have been updated as part of this core upgrade, we can mention Primus 20151110, Phonon 4.9.0, Samba 4.3.8, Wine 1.9.8, SQLite 3.12.1, Rust 1.8.0, btrfs-progs 4.5.1-2, and intltool 0.51.0. Shortly, the KDE Plasma 5.6.3 desktop environment and KDE Applications 16.04 software suite will also land in the Chakra GNU/Linux repos.
All Chakra GNU/Linux users need to update their systems as soon as possible if they want to receive all the goodies mentioned above, and keep their OSes as stable and as reliable as possible. You need to use the Pacman package manager to update your system, but please note that it takes up to 24 hours for all the mirrors to be synchronized with the main server.
