Polaroid is mostly known for its cameras, but the company has been forced to take another route more recently, and it has announced that it plans to enter the smartphone market.

There already are some Polaroid entry-level Android smartphones available on the market, which were launched few years ago.

This week, the company has announced the upcoming availability of another mid-range Android smartphone called Power.

The new Polaroid Power comes with a huge 6-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution.

The device will ship with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box, but Polaroid has confirmed that an Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade will be available for download soon after launch.

Polaroid Power is powered by a 64-bit octa-core processor, probably provided by MediaTek, coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card slot.

Excellent camera, 4G LTE support

There's also a 13-megapixel camera on the back, which features autofocus, dual-LED flash, and video recording, as well as a secondary 8-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.

Connectivity-wise, Polaroid Power offers 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS with AGPS support, along with microUSB 2.0 and 3.5mm audio jack port.

Polaroid Power is powered by a 3,000 mAh battery and will be available in Platinum color. Customers will be able to pick this one up starting this spring for around $250 outright.

“We’re expanding our unlocked smartphone line with a focus on enhanced camera capabilities, upgraded features and providing even more choices for consumers to customize their mobile lifestyles.”

“Our new smartphone line complements a family of Polaroid products that embody what the brand is most well-known for; offering consumers fun and affordable ways to instantly capture and share memories with their friends and family,” said Polaroid President and CEO, Scott W. Hardy.
