It looks like Acer is bringing its products to another category of consumers: children. The newly announced Iconia One 8 tablet is aimed at families, children or novice users, Acer confirmed in an official statement.

The slate has been officially introduced at CES 2016 trade fair where it will be showcased for the next few days. According to Acer, Iconia One 8 tablet will be launched in North America in February.

Customers will be able to purchase it for just $100 while those living in EMEA region will be able to grab one for slightly more: €129.

Acer also states that prices and availability will vary by region, so the tablet might be more or less expensive in some countries.

Acer Iconia One 8 ships preloaded with Kids Center application, which offers a simplified user interface for children. It also provides pre-screened content appropriate for children, including videos, games, books, and websites.

Naturally, the tablet includes parental control features such as blocking access to unapproved content, pre-defining content for children, as well as setting a daily time for using the tablet.

The perfect tablet for children or Android newcomers

For those who haven't owned an Android tablet before, the Iconia One 8 comes packed with some smart tools developed by Acer that should make it simpler to use.

EZ WakeUp is Acer's version of “double tap to wake up” feature while EZ Snap allows users to take a screenshot with a three-finger pinch. System Doctor is an application that manages the tablet's memory, storage, and apps to better optimize Android.

Hardware-wise, Acer Iconia One 8 comes equipped with a quad-core MediaTek processor, 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

As the name suggests, Acer's tablet sports an 8-inch display that supports HD resolution. It also packs a 5-megapixel camera on the back and a 2-megapixel camera in the front.

Last but not least, Acer Iconia One 8 will be available in both white and blue colors, and it will ship with Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box.
