The rolling-release distribution gets new ISO images

After announcing the release of a new version of the CentOS Atomic Host project, Karanbir Singh published details about the August 2015 snapshot of the rolling-release CentOS 7 Linux kernel-based operating system.

As you might know, the CentOS Linux 7 distribution is based on the upstream freely distributed Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 sources, but follows a rolling-release model. However, from time to time, the developers build new installation and live bootable mediums that include all the latest updates released on the main software repositories of the OS since the date of the announcement.

Therefore, the August 2015 snapshots of CentOS Linux 7 include all the security patches, software updates, enhancements, and bugfixes that have been pushed to the CentOS official software repositories located on the mirror.centos.org website as of September 11, 2015, the date when the new ISO images have been built, which can be used to deploy the operating system on new computers or do fresh installs.

Users are being informed by the CentOS Linux developers that their current CentOS 7 installations already include the changes implemented in the new ISO images, if their systems are up to date. As such, existing CentOS Linux 7 users must update as soon as possible to receive all these improvements. To update, use the pre-installed YUM package manager.

"Machines installed from this media will have all these updates pre-included and will look no different when compared with machines installed with older media that have been yum updated to the same point in time. All rpm/yum repos remain on mirror.centos.org with no changes in either layout or content," says Karanbir Singh.

CentOS Linux 7 is distributed in multiple editions

There are several ways to get the latest CentOS Linux 7 operating system, as the developers provide users with Minimal, DVD, and Everything 64-bit installation media, KDE, GNOME, and GNOME Minimal 64-bit Live CDs, 64-bit cloud images, 64-bit Vagrant images, as well as 64-bit images for vendor environments, such as Amazon AWS, which will be available through the vendor's distribution channels.

Those of you who want to install the latest version of the CentOS 7 Linux distribution can download the latest CentOS 7.1-1508 ISO images right now from Softpedia. Additionally, the CentOS project provides Docker images based on the long-term supported CentOS Linux 5, CentOS Linux 6, and CentOS Linux 7 operating systems at http://index.docker.io/_/centos.
