Suman Chakravartula informs us today about the general availability of a new maintenance update to his open-source and free Linux-based NAS (Network-Attached Storage) operating system, Rockstor 3.8-16.

The new version arrives a little over a month after the previous point release, namely Rockstor 3.8-15, and it appears to be yet another exciting release in the development cycle of the Btrfs-based NAS solution as a total of six contributors have managed to address no less than 35 issues reported by users since November 10, 2016.

"The theme of this release is Maintenance! It’s worth noting that there are many overall stability and reliability improvements in this release, from Django upgrade to the tiniest of UI fixes and everything in between," said Suman Chakravartula. "We’ve really suited Rockstor up for a year-end holiday party and are deeply grateful for the engagement and contributions of our great community!"

Among the fixes that landed in the Rockstor 3.8-16 release, we can mention various improvements to the Dashboard pool usage widget, better pool usage reporting, support for Rockstor to be viewed as a server in AFP (Apple Filing Protocol) shares, better smoothing thanks to an increase in the widget animation timing, as well as the implementation of a NUT-initiated shutdown option.

Other than that, it looks like the flash websocket files have been removed, the time comparison functionality was improved and should no longer fail, a small Samba regression is patched as well, python-socketio is now used instead of gevent-socketio, Django got updated to one of its most advanced releases, and there are a bunch of enhancements to the Samba configuration. Check out the full release notes for all the details.
