After briefly announcing the other day that the CentOS 7 Linux operating system was available for select ARMv7-based single-board computers, such as Raspberry Pi 2, Banana Pi and CubieTruck, Karanbir Singh is proud to present the release of CentOS AltArch 7.

According to the release notes, CentOS AltArch 7 is based on the recently introduced CentOS 7 Build 1511 rolling-release update, which included a broad range of new features, such as the X.Org Server 1.17 display server, along with support for TLS 1.1, TLS 1.2 and EC ciphers in various pre-installed apps.

Additionally, CentOS 7 Linux Build 1511 ships with full support for the virt-v2v command-line tool, the KDE 4.14 and GNOME 3.14 desktop environments, the LibreOffice 4.3.7 office suite, support for nanosecond timestamps in the tcpdump package, as well as the OpenLDAP 2.4.40 open-source LDAP implementation.

"I would like to announce the general availability of the following CentOS AltArch 7 releases," says Karanbir Singh in the release announcement. "We anticipate CentOS AltArch 7 (1511) for Aarch64 will be ready for release within the coming days, and will be announced independently."

Available for PPC64, PPC8LE, ARMhfp, AArch64, 64-bit and 32-bit

The CentOS AltArch 7 operating system has been made available in multiple editions for various hardware architectures. They are CentOS AltArch 7 (1511) for i686 (32-bit), CentOS AltArch UserLand 7 (1511) for Armhfp, CentOS AltArch 7 (1511) for PowerPC64, CentOS AltArch 7 (1511) for PowerPC8 LE, and CentOS AltArch 7 (1511) for AArch64.

Please note that the PowerPC8 LE and PowerPC64 (PPC64) editions of CentOS AltArch 7 (1511) are available only as a TechPreview (TP), which means that you should not deploy them in production environments where stability is of the essence.
