A brand new and quite massive report has just appeared online concerning CD Projekt Red, the developer of The Witcher series. Apparently, the studio is now visited by Electronic Arts representatives in regards to a possible deal. It's unclear if the deal involves a buyout of the company or just a distribution deal for future games, like Cyberpunk 2077. However, the studio's Community Manager dismantles the rumor.

CD Projekt Red has made a name for itself by delivering the solid The Witcher role-playing games, with the most recent one - The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - breaking records in terms of sales and critical acclaim.

The independent Polish studio also operates the GOG digital distribution service and is slowly but surely becoming one of the biggest players in Europe overall.

EA might soon make a deal with CD Projekt Red

However, it seems that things might change in the near future. DSOGaming reports, via an internal source, that CD Projekt Red is currently hosting some visitors from Electronic Arts, the huge publisher that owns studios like BioWare or DICE.

It's unclear why the EA representatives are visiting the Polish team, but the source speculates that it's in regards to a buyout of the company. This isn't the first time EA has bought studios altogether and it certainly has the financial resources to do such a thing.

“I’m employee of CD Projekt Red and I have some bad news to share with you. Our management is probably talking with Electronic Arts about potential take over. Electronic Arts representatives are currently visiting our studio and meeting with top management. We are not going to release any game soon, so for sure it’s not about any publishing deal, so the only possible reason for EA guys being here is that they want to buy us,” the source says.

It's also possible, however, that EA just wants to make a publishing deal with CD Projekt Red for its future Cyberpunk 2077 RPG. The Polish studio has self-published The Witcher titles digitally, but in terms of retail releases, it's partnered with Bandai Namco for Europe or Warner Bros. for North America.

There are no EA representatives at the studio

The rumor picked up the attention of CD Projekt Red Community Manager Marcin Momot, who confirms that the studio isn't hosting any actual EA representatives. The denial is attributed directly to CEO Marcin Iwinski, so it's most definitely official.
