MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2016 is almost upon us, and one of the biggest attraction there will be, of course, Canonical's latest Ubuntu convergence features, which the company behind the world's most popular free operating system will showcase on the new BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition tablet device.

Mobile World Congress (MWC) is the world’s largest conference in the mobile industry, and it takes place every year in Barcelona, Spain, and 2016 is Canonical's fourth year in a row to have a strong presence at the event. "This year, the Ubuntu presence will be bigger than ever," says Canonical in its latest press release.

On this occasion, we would like to remind you what Canonical showcased in previous years at MWC. Let's start with 2012, when the company was proud to announce "Ubuntu for Android" as the world’s first full-featured desktop on a docked smartphone, which was the first sign of convergence.

But running Ubuntu and Android at the same time on the same device was not enough for them, and a year later, they showcased their impressive Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system on Android phones and tablets, such as Nexus 4 and Nexus 7. The presence of Ubuntu Touch was so strong that it even won the best of Mobile World Congress award from CNET.

Meizu MX4 and BQ Aquaris Ubuntu Phones

Seeing that Ubuntu Touch Developer Preview for smartphones and tablets was a hot topic at MWC 2014, Canonical announced the first-ever, real Ubuntu Phones, the Meizu MX4 and BQ Aquaris E4.5, which were to be made available later that year with Ubuntu mobile OS pre-loaded.

And finally, during last year's Mobile World Congress event, Canonical showcased its latest Ubuntu Phones, including BQ Aquaris E5 HD, the third mobile device to ship with Ubuntu Touch, which visitors were able to see and play with for the first time at an MWC conference.

MWC 2015 was also the first year when Canonical discussed the future of its Ubuntu convergence vision, and Mark Shuttleworth, the founder of Canonical and Ubuntu, was there to talk with visitors about the convergence story, explaining to them what they should be expecting from next year's MWC.

BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu tablet and the Ubuntu convergence

Present day. MWC 2016 will take place on February 22-25, and Canonical's presence there is expected to be the hottest ever, showcasing its newly announced BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition tablet and the progress of the Ubuntu convergence, along with OpenStack, NFV, and IoT (Internet of Things) demos.

"For the first time, the technology community will be able to try the latest Ubuntu-powered devices, including the first commercial devices to offer both a full PC and a phone in one single device," said Canonical. "Network operators can see how Ubuntu devices can help them offer a rich branded experience to their customers."

Without any doubt, the BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition tablet will be hotly debated at Mobile World Congress 2016, and if you want to book a meeting with Canonical's executive team, do so right now. If you are at MWC this year, don't hesitate to drop by their stand, in Hall 3 - 3J30, to see what Ubuntu convergence is and take the latest Ubuntu devices for a spin.
