14 DAY TRIAL // The Samsung ARTIK 5 and ARTIK 10 modules are not famous, but they are about to become so. Canonical has big plans and wants to make Snappy Ubuntu Core work on these platforms.
The Internet of Things ecosystem just gets bigger every day, and everyone wants a piece of the action. Samsung is one of the most important hardware manufacturers on the planet, so it’s only natural for them to want to get involved and get an early start with IoT devices.
For now, IoT (Internet of Things) hasn’t really kicked in. This is still early technology, and there aren’t many examples of working devices. We get a smart fridge or maybe some other smart appliance, but for the most part, IoT is not having a big impact on people's lives.
Companies have started to notice that IoT is not going away and that more and more devices are being connected to the Internet. They need to be managed, and Canonical figured this out a long time ago. The Ubuntu Core is one of the solutions out there, and it’s also among the best.
Ubuntu Core to power Samsung IoT hardware
An event named ARM TechCon 2015 is taking place in Santa Clara, California, and it gathers a lot of heavy hitters from the industry. Samsung is one of them, and they are bringing the RTIK 5 and ARTIK 10 modules. Canonical will also be present to show what Ubuntu Core can do.
“Canonical and Samsung will be at this year’s ARM TechCon to show off the power of snappy Ubuntu Core on the Samsung ARTIK 5 and ARTIK 10 modules. The companies will demonstrate how combining Samsung ARTIK and snappy Ubuntu Core results in an easy-to-use development platform for internet-connected devices, enabling developers to lower costs and shorten their time to market,” reads the announcement from Canonical.
It’s quite possible that we’ll see a much closer partnership between Canonical and Samsung if the latter likes what it sees.
