Canonical's Michael Vogt announced today the release and immediate availability of the Snapd 2.26.8 minor update to the Snappy daemon used in Ubuntu Linux and other Snappy-enabled GNU/Linux distributions.

Snapd 2.26.8 comes about nine days after version 2.26.6 as it would appear that Canonical skipped version 2.26.7, and adds a bunch of goodies to those interested in installing Snap applications. For example, there's now tab-completion support in Snaps, in the way that they can ship with a bash completion script that can be exported to user's shell.

It also adds a new command called "snap whoami," a new "snap refresh --time" option that users can use to show information about refresh settings, as well as a new "snap tasks --last={refresh,install,remove,connect,disconnect,configure,try}" option. Moreover, Snapd 2.26.8 improves the API interface, the tab completion for interfaces, and the output of the "snap info" command.

New interfaces and improved ones

Also new in the Snapd 2.26.8 release are a bunch of interfaces that should interest those who want to package their Linux apps in the Snap universal binary format for distribution across multiple operating systems. These include online-account-service, network-status, storage-framework, and random. Also, the browser-support, dbus and locale-control interfaces were improved.

Other than that, the latest Snapd update fixes some compatibility issues with Go 1.8 and a seccomp related core revert bug that has been described in detail here. Snapd 2.26.8 will soon be available for installation from the main Ubuntu Linux repositories for all supported releases, as well as from the repos of other distros that support Canonical's Snappy daemon. Please update at your earliest convenience!
