14 DAY TRIAL // Canonical, through Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre, proudly announced the availability of a Technology Preview (TP) of Ubuntu Server's new installer, which was secretly developed by various Ubuntu engineers over the past few months.
The new Ubuntu Server installed, called Subiquity, was developed during the six-month development cycle of the recently released Ubuntu 17.04 (Zesty Zapus) operating system, but only now Canonical decided to reveal it to the world, looking for feedback from the community.
"During the 17.04 development cycle, the Ubuntu Foundations team has been working on a new experimental installer for servers. We are now ready to get feedback from a wider audience," said Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre, Ubuntu Foundations. "We'd love to get your feedback on it!"
Here's how to test the new Ubuntu Server 17.04 experimental installer
Those of you who are intrigued by this new, experimental installer of Ubuntu Server can download the Live ISO images of Ubuntu 17.04 (Zesty Zapus) that Canonical baked for the brave of us. These are special images that boot directly into the new installer, which you can see in action in the gallery attached below.
To encourage more users to take the new Ubuntu Server installer for a test drive and report any bugs that they might encounter, Canonical made hybrid ISO images that can be booted in a virtual machine, written to a USB flash drive, or burnt to a CD/DVD disc to be tested on actual hardware.
Canonical promises that only the look and feeling of the installer was changed, as after installing the operating system on your machine(s), you'll enjoy the same level of quality that the company provided so far for its Ubuntu Server offering. Before testing it, don't forget to study the known issues and their workarounds on the mailing list announcement.
