Canonical's Olivier Tilloy reports today on the availability of an updated version of the LibreOffice Snap package for Ubuntu Linux and other Snappy-enabled distributions.

The LibreOffice Snap created by Canonical has been updated to version 5.3.4.2, based on the latest LibreOffice 5.3.4 point release announced last week. While the new LibreOffice 5.3.4 Snap was already published in the Snappy Store, it resides in the Beta channel as it hasn't been tested enough.

"An updated version of the LibreOffice Snap was published earlier today in the Snap Store (beta channel). If you are using the Snap already, or if you feel like testing it, now is the time to upgrade to that version (5.3.4.2) and let us know if you find issues with it," says Olivier Tilloy, Engineer at Canonical.

Here's how to install the LibreOffice 5.3.4 Snap on Ubuntu

Those of you who feel brave enough to install the LibreOffice 5.3.4 Snap on their Snappy-enabled Ubuntu distribution, or any other GNU/Linux operating system that supports Snaps, can do so by installing it using the following command. If it works well for you, help the Snappy team promote the Snap to the stable channel.

snap install --beta libreoffice Please try to keep in mind that the LibreOffice Snap will coexist with the official LibreOffice packages that are already installed on your operating system from the repositories. So if you want to use only the LibreOffice Snap, remove those packages by running the following command in the Terminal app (only on Ubuntu). sudo apt remove "libreoffice*"
sudo apt autoremove
Also, please note that the LibreOffice Snap is only available for the 64-bit (amd64) and ARMhf hardware architectures, as there's a bug in the 32-bit (i386) build that's being actively investigated at the moment of writing this article. Hopefully, with your help, Canonical will be able to fix all remaining issues and publish the LibreOffice 5.3.4 Snap to the stable channel of the Snappy Store.
