Distributed as part of the Landscape management system

Today, November 17, Canonical, the company behind the world's most popular free operating system, Ubuntu Linux, has had the great pleasure of announcing the general availability of its OpenStack Autopilot tool.

Promising major cloud cost savings by eliminating the need for OpenStack consulting or expertise, the OpenStack Autopilot project has been designed by Canonical from the ground up to provide users with an easy-to-use tool for fully automated bare-metal OpenStack deployments.

OpenStack Autopilot also eases the scaling and administration operations by using a containerized deployment mechanism. Moreover, to optimize the scale-out cloud architecture for clusters, the OpenStack Autopilot tool use smart hardware mapping features.

"Economics are the prime driver of cloud adoption; for public and also for private cloud," says Mark Shuttleworth, founder of Canonical and Ubuntu. "The OpenStack Autopilot transforms the economics of private cloud, enabling every institution to create its own private cloud without hiring specialist OpenStack skills and without any third-party consulting."

Integrated into Canonical’s Landscape management system

For ease of use, the OpenStack Autopilot tool has been integrated into Canonical’s Landscape management system, which is being known worldwide as one of the most comprehensive enterprise Linux management systems on the market. Therefore, it is now possible to deploy and operate OpenStack-based clouds directly from Landscape.

Engineered to study the hardware allocated to your cloud infrastructure, OpenStack Autopilot will offer you a wide range of software-defined networking and storage options, creating an optimized reference architecture for your cluster while also deploying clouds from scratch.

Future updates to OpenStack Autopilot will bring support for managing the cloud, the ability to handle upgrades, as well as support for handling operational issues in real time.
