Throwing around some incredible devices, Canon leapfrogs forward in camera and accessories development letting loose to the media some incredible devices the company is working on at the moment.

After having recently unveiled that it was working on a massive 250MP sensor that could fit into your everyday DSLR, Canon now releases a press review in which they announce they're developing a 120mp high pixel density sensor camera. Although not directly mentioned, it's believed the new sensor will go into a replacement for the Cinema EOS C500 that will be Canon's direct competitor with ARRI.

Additionally, Canon is developing a Cinema EOS System 8K camera and professional-use 8K reference display that will support the production of next-generation 8K video content, along with a still image single-lens reflex camera equipped with a CMOS sensor featuring approximately 120 million effective pixels.

Canon keeps up the good news

Canon claims that the new Cinema EOS System 8K camera will allow being equipped with a full-size Canon Super 35 mm-equivalent CMOS sensor that brings a high-resolution 8,192 x 4,320 pixel (approximately 35.39 million effective pixels) imaging performance up to an incredible 60 frames per second with 13 stops1 of dynamic range and a richly expressive wide color gamut.

Canon did not mention for whom, at what price and when such incredible 120 MP equipped camera would come, but we can imagine it won't be for normal, everyday customers, and will be rather, like the previous 250MP monster, dedicated to police or any surveillance companies.

Interesting to notice is, though, that out of the 96 lenses that make up the EF lens lineup, 78 models (60 EF lenses and 18 EF Cinema Lenses) will be compatible with the 8K camera under development. Additionally, out of the 96 lenses that make up the EF lens lineup, 60 models will be compatible with the SLR camera under development.

More details about pricing and availability will probably be made available at the Canon Expo 2015 in New York.
