Microsoft publishes new ad for Edge browser

Microsoft bashing Google Chrome is not a new thing, especially because the company is pushing hard to boost Edge browser adoption, so this new video praising the performance and security of the application is barely a surprise.

Just like it happened in the previous ads, Microsoft uses the Edge ad to emphasize that its browser is faster and more secure than Google Chrome, which at this point is the number one desktop browser worldwide with some 60 percent market share.

The 30-second Edge video claims “Microsoft Edge is up to 48% faster than Google Chrome” before adding that “Microsoft Edge blocks 18% more phishing sites than Google Chrome.”

Microsoft hasn’t provided any specifics on how it achieved these results, but they’re probably based on benchmarks conducted in the past and which the company discusses on several occasions when comparing the performance of its browser against solutions from other developers.

Opinions still mixed on Edge performance

While Microsoft goes on with its somehow aggressive marketing push for Edge browser, users’ opinions are still mixed on whether these ads do any good and if the application indeed deserves all the praises.

“I think this is a joke,” one user said in the comment section of YouTube for this new ad, before another one added that Edge is “48% faster at getting you angry.”

On the other hand, there are users who are perfectly fine with Microsoft Edge, saying that it “works have, I’ve had no problems with it.”

Microsoft has recently made Edge a cross-platform browser, and in addition to the desktop, the company also brought it to iOS and Android. Edge is rapidly gaining ground on mobile, especially on Android where it has already surpassed the 1 million downloads milestone despite only recently pushed out of beta.

For comparison, the Android version of Google Chrome has recently exceeded 1 billion installs from the Google Play Store.
