Calligra is an integrated suite of applications for office, creative, and management needs. A fresh update has been released for the application, and it looks like the developers still have plans for this branch.

As the version number suggests, Caligra 2.9.6 is just a maintenance release, and it's mostly here to deliver fixes and other various improvements. All the components in the Caligra suite have been upgraded, including Kexi, Krita, Calligra Plan, and Calligra Words. There aren't any major features in this new release, but it's a good idea to upgrade anyway.

Most of the applications that you would ever need are integrated in the Calligra suite: Words for text processing, Sheets for computations, Stage for presentations, Plan for planning, Flow for flowchart, and Kexi for database creation.

What's new in Caligra 2.9.6

"We are pleased to announce that Calligra Suite and Calligra Active 2.9.6 have just been released. This recommended update brings further improvements to the 2.9 series of the applications and underlying development frameworks," reads the official announcement.

According to the changelog, building on CentOS has been fixed, the Collapse button in docker titlebar is now shown even if it has been set to uncollapsable, the "keep lines together" check box in paragraph checkbox has been corrected, the cursor is correct when hovering the corner handles of a shape, a number of Kexi fixes have been implemented, and numerous Krita improvements have been made. In fact, we covered the new Krita release in much greater detail a couple of days ago.

A complete list of changes and updates can be found in the official changelog. You can download the Calligra 2.9.6 sources right now from Softpedia.

The current version of the software also runs on mobile platforms, namely Calligra Mobile and Calligra Active. Users of any previous iterations have been asked to update as soon as possible, either by compiling the new build or by using the provided methods.
