Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is entering the final months of its life as a competitive shooter, and the development team at Sledgehammer Games is keen to make sure that the community continues to engage with the title despite the fact that a new entry in the series is in the final stages of development.

A new Fireside chat on the official site features Michael Condrey, the leader of the studio and one of its co-founders, explaining the tweaks that are being made to the multiplayer and the way the shooter will evolve in the future.

Starting on June 23, gamers who have full matching gear sets will get more XP in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, which, the developer explains, is motivated by the fact that the community wanted their choices and character decisions to have a bigger impact.

Sledgehammer Games is also planning to deliver more Elite variations for players to use in combat, and it seems that the team will get more adventurous when it comes to their designs and capabilities.

Condrey adds, "Future releases of Royalty Variants will include stat changes as well, and our approach will be very similar – new weapons available through Supply Drops and Advanced Supply Drops that are well balanced against other popular weapon choices in the game."

Xbox One and 360 players of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will get more options on June 23, while fans of the PC and the PlayStation platforms will have to wait a while longer.

Older consoles will not get any more new weapons

Sledgehammer Gamers says that the technical limitations associated with the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 mean that there's no way to add more weapon variants for them, despite the fact that the company has more ideas.

The decision does not affect the full downloadable content, which will continue to arrive on all platforms on which Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is offered.

Condrey also asks gamers to continue to deliver feedback and explain what kind of changes they want to see coming in future patches.

At the moment, another developer, Treyarch, is working with publisher Activision to put the finishing touches on Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, which will offer gamers a futuristic take on war in 2065 and is set to be released on November 6.
