Calibre, the open-source and cross-platform ebook management software, received a new update today that brought support for Amazon's latest Kindle device.

Calibre 3.11 is the latest stable release of the application, and, according to the release notes, it now supports the all-new Kindle Oasis e-reader from Amazon, which is also company's very-first waterproof Kindle device. Support for Kindle Oasis was implemented in the Kindle driver so you can connect it to Calibre to sync books.

Also new in this release is support for controlling the look and feel of the text in the browser viewer by specifying custom CSS style sheets, the ability for the app to display the original word in italics in the list of suggestions under the Edit Book Spell Check feature, and the implementation of a contains rule type in column coloring.

The browser viewer also received improvements to the font size and color scheme settings so they can be taken into consideration in the footnote pop-up. Moreover, it's now possible to add a new HTML file after the file that's currently being edited, not before it, and the Book Details panel now lets you save the displayed cover to disk.

Better DOCX support, Linux improvements, and new news sources

Calibre 3.11 improves the DOCX output functionality used for converting books to the DOCX format by addressing an issue with the XML and comments processing instructions in the middle of text, which caused text to be skipped. It also fix the metadata field titles in the Book Details panel to be aligned at the top.

For Linux users, Calibre 3.11 improves the startup, which took longer than expected on the distributions that don't have a desktop notification service enabled. Lastly, support for the Financial Times, El Mundo, Tulsa World, Science Daily, and computerworld.pl news sources was improved.

Calibre 3.11.1 was released as well a few hours after the 3.11.0 version to fix some regressions that would break the Get Books component when configuring it or when attempting to create catalogs. You can download Calibre 3.11.1 for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Windows systems right now from our website.
