A new update has been released for Calibre

The Calibre eBook reader, editor, and library management software, has been updated to version 2.33. It's one of the smallest updates, and it's just here to bring support for an important new device and deliver a few small changes.

The Calibre development cycle took a short break, but now it's back in force. After the update from last week, the Calibre developer has returned with a new one, but it's way smaller. In fact, the main point on the very short list of changes seems to be the support for the SONY DPT-S1, a new amazing eBook reader that can be used to take notes and write just like you would in a notebook.

Calibre is a very complex piece of software, and it's more than just a simple reader or ebook converter. In fact, the application can be used as a virtual library, as a shopping tool for new books, as a newspaper reader, and much more. It's difficult to enumerate all the features, and it becomes all that much harder when you also add the fact that it supports add-ons.

What's new in Calibre 2.23

According to the changelog, when showing suggestions for misspelled words the suggestions from user created word lists are also displayed, a check for "invalid" ids has been added, stylesheets linked via media queries that use device specific features are now ignored, covers are now being read from some TXTZ files, and support has been added for numbered lists that do not start numbering at 1.

Installing the latest version of Calibre is quite easy, as the developer provides a simple script to do all that. It should be platform-independent, but some users might not be able to run it. It's also likely that some of the repos out there might already feature the new version, so be sure to check them out first.
