Calibre developer Kovid Goyal released today a new stable version of his popular, open-source and cross-platform Calibre ebook library management software, Calibre 3.4.

Calibre 3.4 is here only one week after the release of the 3.3 update, which means that it's not a major version and it only adds a few user interface improvements, along with the usual bug fixes. The most important thing introduced in Calibre 3.4 is the a new method of exporting books to your computer.

In the Edit Book component, there's now an option called "Export selected files" if you right-click on the File browser, and it makes it a lot easier to export all selected books to your computer. In addition, there's now a configurable shortcut to move the focus from the Quickview component to the book list.

Other improvements implemented in Calibre 3.4 include the ability for the in_list() functions to return different values, which depend on what is found in the template language, and support for the built-in server component to remember the last used state of the Tag browser when returning to the search page.

Bug fixes, improved news sources

Calibre 3.4 also fixes a few issues that users reported since last week's update, such as incorrect counts in letter categories for server OPDS feeds when dealing with lowercase names, as well as the removal of the % character from filenames that are sent to a Nook e-reader device.

A crash caused by Quickview that occurred during startup was fixed as well, the "Show details" button in the Edit Book component is now visible when the user does a "Replace all" operation instead of a "Count all" one, and the Conversion engine was improved to use local time zone when inserting publication years in the metadata jacket.

Last but not least, the Private Eye FOX News news sources were improved. You can download Calibre 3.4 for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Microsoft Windows operating systems right now from our website if you want to install it on your personal computer. Calibre 3.4 is a recommended update for all users.
