Last week's major Calibre 3.0 update made a lot of noise among the ebook community with its new support for reading books in-browser on your phone or tablet, and now developer Kovid Goyal announces the first point release to the series.

Calibre 3.1 is out, and among the new features is ships with, we can mention support for reading RAR and CBR files compressed using the latest RAR 5.0 archiving format, a new option in the Tag browser to control the spacing between items, and new buttons to the Edit metadata dialog to easily set and clear the "Yes/No" columns.

The Edit metadata dialog was also updated to let users right-click the Paste ISBN button to paste an identifier that contains a different prefix. Other than that, Calibre 3.1 implements an option in Preferences -> Look & feel to allow the app to display individual layout buttons in the status bar, and improves the New Yorker, BBC News, Wall Street Journal, and The Times news sources.

Bug fixes

Calibre 3.1 appears to be mostly a bugfix release than a feature one, adding a bunch of improvements across supported platforms and components. Among the things that received improvements in this update, we can mention the Google images metadata download plugin, the content server, the splash screen, keyboard shortcuts on macOS, the server, and the Get Books and Edit book features.

A list of all the changes included in this minor update can be found below, and, in the meantime, you can download Calibre 3.1 for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Microsoft Windows operating systems right now from our website. Calibre 3 is a major series adding support for HiDPI/Retina screens, the ability to convert books to Microsoft Word (DOCX) documents, support for third-party icon themes, and much more.
