We know how much you love the Calibre open-source ebook library management tool when you have to organize and convert ebooks to various formats for your Kindle, Nook, or Kobo e-book reader device, and a new version is now available.

Calibre 2.77 was announced by developer Kovid Goyal a few days ago, and while it's only a bugfix release, it also attempts to add various improvements that we bet you'll find interesting. For example, Calibre 2.77 improves the detection of the Nook HD+ color tablet e-reader under Microsoft Windows operating systems.

For Kindle users, Calibre 2.77 enhances support for newer books in the KFX format on all e-ink models. The Edit Book component also received some much-needed attention in the new release, such as better import of DOCX files as a new book with the version attribute set in the OPF file.

The Times and Helsingin Sanomat news sources were improved

Continuing with the improvements implemented to the Edit Book functionality, Calibre 2.77 ensures that the keyboard will keep its focus on the Files Browser when renaming books, and the "Check Book" feature should no longer report a type mismatch error after a file is being replaced by a different one featuring another mime type.

Other than that, Edit Book's group references will no longer cause errors when replacing strings in the normal mode search and replace, conversion of DOCX files won't fail due to a missing < td > tag, and a regression was fixed for the E-book Viewer component when clicking links in the footnote pop-up dialog.

It also looks like references to old cover images inside SVG wrappers will now update correctly when changing the cover image, and the Amazon metadata download feature is now capable of detecting book series. Last but not least, the kath.net, Helsingin Sanomat, The Times, publico.pt, and Telepolis news sources have been improved.
