Users can now also hide the row numbers in the book list

Today, November 25, 2016, Calibre developer Kovid Goyal proudly announced the release of yet another maintenance update of his popular, free, open-source and cross-platform ebook library management tool.

Calibre 2.73 is here exactly one week after the previous point release, namely Calibre 2.72, to add a bunch of interesting new features, such as the ability to hide row numbers in the main book list by using the new option implemented in the Look & Feel section of the Preferences dialog.

It's also now possible to import and export column coloring and icon rules, but it looks like the Edit Book component received the most attention in Calibre 2.73. For example, it lets you bulk change file extensions for chosen files just by right-clicking on the files selected in the file browser.

New checks were implemented for the Check Book functionality in the Edit Book component, one to support nav documents that don't contain Table of Contents (ToC) in EPUB 3 book formats, and another one to test if the embedding permissions have been enabled for embedded fonts in a book.

Bug fixes, improved news sources

Calibre 2.73 also attempts to address a few of the bugs reported by users since last week's Calibre 2.72 release, such as a regression that made the icon theme creation tool to not function, or an issue where you would not be able to jump to the current date when pressing the up arrow key in a date edit that contained an undefined value.

The EPUB Input feature has been improved as well to use a fallback ToC for invalid nav-based Table of Contents used in various EPUB 3.0 documents that have a fallback NCX ToC. Calibre 2.73 now only allows the search bar in the insert character dialog to get input focus, and improves the Dilbert and The Hindu news sources.
